Investment Is Not Just a Trend, but a Planned Story of the Future

Jakarta, 31 January 2026 – Amid the growing public interest in investing, many people still begin without sufficient understanding of risks, goals, and processes. Through a talk show titled “Cara Jadi Investor Realistis” (How to Become a Realistic Investor), Bank Jago, together with the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and Stockbit, invited the public to build their future through healthy, realistic, and well-planned investing.

Theo Derick, an entrepreneur and content creator who was one of the speakers, highlighted the phenomenon of “get-rich-quick” promises that often attract prospective investors. “Many people are tempted because they follow trends or friends’ advice. In fact, they don’t have clear investment goals. They perceive investment as a game changer that will automatically make people richer,” Theo emphasized.

According to him, the key to prosperity lies in proper financial management. People need to be cautious of promises of high returns with no risk, which in reality are not investments.

Without concrete financial goals, Theo explained, individuals are easily tempted by unrealistic high returns. In fact, healthy investing always starts with planning, having clear objectives, and understanding acceptable levels of risk.

“Investment is not about who is the fastest, but who is the most consistent,” Theo said.

A similar view was shared by William, Head of PR & Communication at Bibit & Stockbit. According to him, the “get-rich-quick” narrative is formed because public attention is usually drawn to stories of instant profits in the media or on social media, while the process, risks, and long-term journey receive far less attention.

“Without realizing it, this shapes the perception that investing is always fast and easy. In reality, there is a process and risks that must be considered,” he said.

Teja Amanda Putra from the IDX Market Development Division reminded the audience that when offered an investment opportunity, they should always remember the 2L principle (Legal and Logical), which serves as the main foundation for investing. According to him, investment products must match one’s risk profile and, of course, be registered with and supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

“Ignoring this is the same as opening the door to scams disguised as profits,” he stressed.

To help build healthy investment habits, Bank Jago—as the pioneer of the “Kantong” (Pockets) feature in Indonesia—introduces a new way of managing finances. Through the Jago App, users can create up to 60 Pockets to separate funds based on specific goals, such as daily needs, savings, and investments. With this approach, funds are no longer mixed, making financial management more controlled and planned.

As a Jago App user, Theo Derick shared his own habit of setting aside funds for vacations, savings, and investments in dedicated Pockets. When there are promotions, he can make purchases without guilt because the funds have already been allocated from the start.

“Promos are fine, FOMO (fear of missing out) is not. Saving is now easier thanks to the Jago app. At the beginning of each month, I use the auto-budgeting feature for savings and investment funds. As long as there’s a Pocket for it, we’re safe,” he said.

Notably, Pockets in the Jago App can be directly connected to the Stockbit and Bibit apps. This integration is also supported by Jago’s Securities Account (RDN Jago), which allows users to buy stocks, bonds, and mutual funds on Stockbit and Bibit with easy top-ups, instant withdrawals, and interest on idle balances. Stockbit further complements this with research features such as stock screeners, discussion communities, and virtual trading for beginners.

Yusuf Aria Putera, Digital Product Lead at Bank Jago, revealed that more than 3 million Jago App users are currently connected to the Bibit and Stockbit investment platforms, representing a 38% increase year-on-year. These Jago customers have created nearly 4.5 million investment Pockets for Bibit and Stockbit, with more than half using RDN Jago.

“Awareness among Bank Jago customers to invest has increased significantly every year, as reflected in the nearly 80% growth in their investment value on Bibit and Stockbit throughout 2025,” Yusuf said.

From a demographic perspective, Yusuf added that nearly 95% of Jago App investors connected to Bibit and Stockbit are of productive age, ranging from 17 to 44 years old. Generation Z dominates nearly 65%, while millennials account for 30%.

“Looking at the data, more than 5% of users are aged 17–19. This means many high school and university students are already investment-aware, spread across almost all cities in Indonesia,” he explained.

Yusuf also introduced the 3C concept—Curious, Critical, and Conscious—as investment tips for beginners. According to him, healthy investing starts with being curious: continuously learning and trying new things in a measured way, so growth happens without losing control. Next, investors must be critical by filtering information and ensuring they understand investment mechanisms and risks, so they are not easily influenced by others’ recommendations. Finally, they must be conscious—making investment decisions mindfully and in accordance with personal circumstances.

“3C is not just a concept, but a compass for investing: “curious” helps us keep growing without losing control, “critical” protects us from impulsive decisions, and “conscious” ensures we don’t lose direction,” Yusuf explained.

Theo Derick closed the talk show by offering tips for anyone who wants to start investing. Most importantly, it is consistently managing income into savings, accompanied by building investment habits from an early stage.

“When savings have grown large—say above IDR 100 million—we can diversify our investment portfolio into higher-risk instruments. Investment is about habit. If it’s not started early, even when you have a large capital later, you still won’t be able to invest,” he explained.

“So wealth is not the result of one big decision, but the result of small habits repeated every day,” Yusuf Aria Putera emphasized.
