Jakarta, 30 November 2023 - PT Bank Jago Tbk has been listed among the 325 banks worldwide and has become the second Indonesian bank to ratify the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative.

This technology-based bank that is embedded in the digital ecosystem has officially joined the global banking community concerned with economic, social, and environmental sustainability, following the signing of the UN Principles for Responsible Banking, on Tuesday (10/5/2023) in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to data from the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), there are currently 325 banks from various countries that have ratified the UN Principles for Responsible Banking, with total assets amounting to US$ 89.4 trillion, or about 50% of the world's total banking assets.

Bank Jago's President Director, Arief Harris Tandjung, stated that the UN’s principles of responsible banking align with Bank Jago's aspirations to create growth opportunities for millions of people while driving sustainable economic growth by providing innovative digital financial solutions integrated with the digital ecosystem.

"Bank Jago's vision is to become the best digital bank by providing easy access for customers, creating innovative breakthroughs, and digitizing banking services while continuously promoting the development of MSMEs and meeting consumer needs. All of this is done by maintaining a balance between economic, social, and environmental aspects," explained Arief.

Arief emphasized that Bank Jago's success and ability to remain relevant depend significantly on the long-term well-being of the community, especially users of the Jago App. "We believe that only in an inclusive environment, where the community is dignified and equal, and natural resources are used sustainably, can our business and stakeholders thrive."

Therefore, Arief continued, Bank Jago aims to take a leadership role in producing banking services that consider long-term environmental and economic sustainability.

"We will work responsibly to promote sustainable business and economic practices that benefit both current and future generations," Arief emphasized.

The UN Principles for Responsible Banking provide a framework for member banks to understand various business risks and opportunities arising from the transition to a sustainable economy. This initiative is part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.

Banks that have signed the UN Principles for Responsible Banking are committed to establishing sustainable strategies, integrating sustainability aspects into their business activities, and continuously innovating to provide sustainable financial services.

Moreover, banks that have signed the UN Principles for Responsible Banking must measure the social and environmental impacts of their business activities, establish and implement programs to achieve significant impact targets, and regularly publish their achievements.
