Bank Jago Enhances Financial Literacy for Children and Mothers Through Jagoan Baca

Jakarta, 27 October 2024 - With aspirations to enhance the growth of millions through life-focused digital financial solutions, PT Bank Jago Tbk introduces the "Jagoan Baca" program, aimed at increasing financial literacy for children and mothers through engaging and inspiring short stories.

"Jagoan Baca" is a volunteer program for writing short stories about financial management for children, involving dozens of writers and illustrators. These stories are published in a series of short story collections.

"As a technology-based bank, Bank Jago is highly concerned with people’s financial health, encouraging financial education from an early age, closely tied to reading activities. Therefore, Bank Jago seeks to enhance financial literacy through the 'Jagoan Baca' program using books as an effective medium, especially for children," said Maya Kartika, Head of Culture, Communication & Sustainability at Bank Jago, during the program's launch event at the Festival Liter-Aksi Anak 2024 in Jakarta.

Currently, the "Jagoan Baca" program features 24 short stories created by writers and illustrators, most of whom are Bank Jago employees. These works are compiled into four short story books.

"By simplifying financial literacy materials into engaging and inspiring children's storybooks, we hope to instill financial knowledge and principles in children, helping them grow into financially responsible and independent individuals," Maya added.

At the same event, Bank Jago Commissioner Anika Faisal mentioned that financial literacy remains a challenge in Indonesia in improving societal welfare and economic growth. This is evident from Indonesia's financial literacy index, which stands at only 65.43% according to the 2024 National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK) by the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

Given this condition, Anika explained, financial literacy is an essential skill for everyone, enabling wise financial management and decision-making that fosters financial well-being and family prosperity.

"In financial education, OJK encourages the involvement of women, especially housewives. We believe that a well-literate mother will educate her children and family to use financial products and services wisely, thereby improving their well-being," added Anika, who is also a women's financial literacy ambassador.

The Jagoan Baca program is one of Bank Jago's sustainability initiatives. In designing its sustainability programs, Bank Jago focuses on addressing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 1: eradicating poverty, Goal 4: improving the quality of education, and Goal 8: creating decent jobs and promoting economic growth.

Previously, Bank Jago launched the Jago Digital Academy, a platform for digital talents to develop their knowledge and skills according to the needs of the digital financial sector, as well as Jago Money Quest, an interactive web-based game for financial education. Sustainability elements are also integrated into Bank Jago’s financial products and services, such as the Jago App, which features tools for managing finances and achieving customers' financial goals.
